Rae Dunn is a California native and resides in the San Francisco, Bay Area. with her dog Wilma. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial design and worked in graphics and fashion design for several years before discovering clay, which has now been her passion since 1994.
Boutique is based on actual Rae designs, more collectible items. In 2005, Magenta asked Dunn if they could license and and make her ceramics. She agreed. The products you find in the big box stores are because Magenta contracted with TJ Maxx corporation (Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Homegoods) to mass produce her LL line to be sold in those stores. Rae now focuses on making one-of-a-kind pieces and her handmade line. When boutique goes to to big box stores (yes it happens- it happened recently) it means that the line isn't selling as well. We still like it but it is not as popular. Rae Dunn boutique is unique and special. Rae believes in "wabi sabi"- seeing beauty in imperfection. Those dimples are supposed to be there, these pieces are not supposed to be perfect.
